Dr. George earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Capital University; her master’s degree in African American Studies from The Ohio State University; and her doctorate in American Studies, with a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies, from The University of Maryland, College Park. She will complete her professional diploma in Instructional Design from the Digital Learning Institute in August 2025.
With over 25 years of experience, Dr. George has taught college level courses at institutions both in Maryland (The University of Maryland College Park, The University of Maryland Baltimore County, The University of Maryland Global Campus and The College of Notre Dame of Maryland) and Ohio (The Ohio State University, Otterbein University and her undergraduate alma mater, Capital University).
While at Capital University, Dr. George taught courses including African American History and Culture, Cultural Pluralism in American Society, Introduction to Women’s Studies, and Women in U.S. History. In each class, she incorporated contemporary popular culture to enhance student engagement and understanding. Across all her courses, common themes included the cultural, social, and historical dynamics of race, class, gender, and sexuality. A unifying objective was to develop students’ critical thinking skills to explore the historical roots of contemporary societal issues. Her research interests focused on exploring new approaches to examining the intersections of race, class, gender, and sexuality in American media.
